The Marital Life of John Douglas Duder

John Douglas Duder (Douglas Walton)

John Douglas Duder married three times in his lifetime.  The first was to Florence M. Barnett, where they received their marriage license on April 20, 1934 in Santa Ana, CA.  The marriage lasted for less than 6 years as by 1940 Duder was already divorced from Barnett.  Florence M. Barnett was born on November 18, 1907 in Needles, California.  Sometime after the divorce she resided in Honolulu. Together they did not have any children.

The second marriage was to Vee W. Roberts on May 1, 1943 at Flagstaff, Arizona.  Roberts was two years older than Duder and resided in Beverly Hills.  Date of separation is unknown.  No children in this marriage either.

The third and most known marriage was to Huguette Suzanne Marie Philomene Boudet, who married Duder on June 9, 1950 in Los Angeles.  She was born on April 4, 1920 in Paris, France to Lucien Joseph Henri Boudet and Suzanne Henriette Charlotte Boudet.  She worked in the French film industry and even appeared in the 1939 comedy "Le veau gras" (The Fatted Calf) which was based from the Bernard Zimmer play.  Her first marriage was to Gilbert de Knyff on January 29, 1942 in Vaudry, Calvados, Normandie, France.  De Knyff also worked in the French film industry, but as an assistant director.  The marriage was brief and she made her way to the US in 1945.  When married to Duder, she became a US citizen on March 28, 1952 in California.  The only information I can gather about their marriage is that together they filed a court case against a group of people regarding about damaged property in LA on August 8, 1953, and they went to a few events together.  She along with Duder were registered as Republicans in 1956 when living in Beverly Hills.

By 1958, Boudet and Duder moved to NYC.  Both befriended Gordon P. Franklin and Gwen Franklin Randolph and were regular guests at their Hampton home.  It made sense that Duder moved to New York to further his artistic endeavors, but it is also stated that Boudet had a successful fashion career.  The fact that the couple were frequent house guests to the Franklins, who were a sizable part of the fashion industry, one must wonder if the move to New York was partly due to Boudet's aspirations.

According to a few travelling records, Boudet and Duder would go to Paris together on an annual basis, usually landing on the first or second week of February.  Perhaps to visit Boudet's family?  This marriage had no children at all.

The marriage lasted up to Duder's death on November 15, 1961, a total of 11 years.  His body was cremated three days later at Ferncliff Crematory in Hartsdale, New York and his cremated remains were returned to Huguette Boudet, on May 24, 1962.  Also in that same year, Boudet married to lawyer Henry Brock in NYC and their loving marriage lasted up to Brock's death on January 29, 1998.  Huguette Boudet did not have any biological children in any of her marriages.

On March 19, 2013, Huguette Boudet peacefully died in Delray Beach, Florida at the age of 92.  As of 2013, she is survived by her brother Alain Boudet and his wife Ginette (Lauris, France), her stepchildren Babette Alfieri (Santa Fe, NM and Zambia, Africa), Mary Merton (Essex, CT), Nita Brock (Santa Rosa, CA), her three grand children, Marc Merton, Christina Alfieri, Christopher Merton, and her six great grandchildren.  She was amicably called Huggie and is remembered for her kindness.
