Professor Alvah Jesper (played by Gary Cooper), resistance leader Gina (played by Lilli Palmer), and physicist Giovanni Polda (played by Vladimir Sokoloff) are on the run from fascist soldiers. A plane landed on a field not too far away from the fleeing trio.  A British Pilot (played by Douglas Walton) jumped out of the plane and was greeted by a few men who were waiting for his arrival from the ground below.

The runaways trekked on.  The British pilot scouted the area with squinting eyes and a cigarette in his mouth.  He checked his watch from time to time with a pessimistic look on his face. He told one of the men that he could only wait for another 5 minutes for the escapees.  Speaking in Italian, one of the men urged him to stay a little longer because they're surely coming.  Not having much hope, the British Pilot shook his head.

The three prevailed as they finally arrived.  All the men, including the British Pilot ran towards the trio and Polda was carried off to the plane. Jesper and Gina said their goodbyes and vowed to see each other again after the war.  Our heroes whisked away in the plane, all thanks to Douglas Walton of course!

There you have it, Douglas Walton shared the scene with Hollywood heavies Gary Cooper, Lilli Palmer, and Vladimir Sokoloff.  He was also directed by Fritz Lang, director of "Metropolis" (1927), "Destiny" (1921), and "M" (1931) who fled away from Nazi Germany due to his Jewish background.  He fled to Paris and he eventually made it to the US.
