Douglas Walton and Brenda Marshall in "Singapore Woman" (1941).

When Vicki Moore (played by Brenda Marshall) came back from a night out, she was startled to find her ex-boyfriend, the dark-haired Roy Bennett (Douglas Walton), standing in her bedroom.  Vicki didn't want to see him as she shouted at him to get out.  Roy walked towards her as he smoothly professed his unconditional love for her.  Vicki didn't want anything to do with him and shoved him into a wall.  With a menacing face, Roy said that a man lives for the woman he loves, and that he would mostly die for her too.  Having no purpose in life anymore now that the woman he loves rejected him, Roy thought about taking his own life...and Vicki's as well.  He could do a big favor for the next man that falls in love with her.  He pulled a gun out and pointed at Vicki.  As Roy was about to shoot, Vicki screamed and ran out of the room.  Bang!  A gun shot was heard.  Vicki is still alive, Roy fell to the ground.  He killed himself.  She watched in horror.

Roy was right.

This is one of the many movies where Douglas Walton is suicidal and gets killed off.  A small role, but Walton was able to fit in a solid performance that bounced from adoration to driven vengeance.  Not bad for a scene that lasted for a minute!

Between 1940 and 1941, Walton's hair was dyed dark.  Other films proved this include "Too Many Girls," "The Long Voyage Home," and "The Letter" (all from 1940).
